Getting there

Kota Tinggi is approximately 1 to 1.5 hours from JB by car, and so around 2 hours from Singapore, depending on checkpoint traffic. The most convenient way to explore the area is by driving, as public transport is limited to buses.

Don’t skip breakfast! (09:30–10:30)

As someone who chooses sleep over food in the mornings, I can relate if waking up early seems daunting. But no worries for my fellow late risers; this itinerary also includes options for a more relaxed day so that you can still experience everything even if you wake up a little late for breakfast.

For those seeking a hearty breakfast, Kiang Kee is widely regarded as one of the best Bak Kut Teh spots in Johor. Located about a 15-minute drive from Kota Tinggi town, it’s more of a choice for early risers but well worth the journey, judging by the many raving reviews.

Renowned for its rich, flavourful broth and tender meat that falls right off the bone, this Bak Kut Teh is a must-try. Be sure to arrive early, as the pots often sell out before noon.

If you prefer a lighter and more convenient start, Okid Kopitiam in town is a popular alternative. This traditional Malaysian kopitiam serves the quintessential breakfast we all enjoy: crispy kaya toast with melting butter, soft-boiled eggs, and strong, aromatic local coffee brewed over a charcoal stove. The nostalgic atmosphere here also provides a cosy, authentic start to your day.

The farm operates as both a conservation centre and educational facility, offering visitors the chance to observe feeding sessions and learn about these prehistoric reptiles. It also features a small zoo with other animals, making it a surprisingly engaging stop for families and wildlife enthusiasts alike.
