Things to look out for at Korea Travel Fair 2024

1. K-Beauty Show

Calling all skintellectuals! Here’s a chance to be drop-dead gorgeous, just like your favourite K-drama stars. Get your glam on by attending a series of workshop sessions conducted by an expert in K-beauty!  K-beauty, or Korean Beauty, is a term used to define the unique beauty standards and practices of South Korea. It focuses on the importance of natural ingredients to achieve a more natural and gentle appearance.

You’ll learn about the secrets of K-Beauty from Bobby Lee, a professor at the Department of Makeup Design, College of Beauty Arts, at Seokyeong University. He was also the Chief Makeup Artist at Espoir by Amorepacific and the Team 2 Luna Chief Makeup Artist at Aekyung Industrial Cosmetics Division. 

Bobby will conduct five K-beauty shows to teach visitors how to achieve Korean glass skin through makeup, skincare, and personal colour analysis.  After this, achieving that smooth and luminous look should be a breeze.

2. K-Pop Dance Workshop

Once your K-Beauty skincare routine is on point, how about busting a move on the dance floor instead? Look forward to an exciting K-Pop dance workshop by Kwak Kyung Hoon, a Korean dancer who grew up in Singapore. He’s taught K-pop dancing for the past four years and boasts 11 years of combined dancing experience in contemporary and hip-hop.

Besides that, Kyung is also active in the freestyle dance scene and has clinched multiple titles for freestyle battles across Asia, Korea, and online battles from Belarus and Ukraine. These include World Supremacy Battlegrounds 2018, Eat Da Beat 1v1 Open Styles 2020, RF Jam beach party 2v2, Explosion Battle 2v2 Online (Ukraine) 2020, and Daejeon Underground Session 2v2.

3. Exciting performances from South Korea

Goseong Ogwangdae

Goseong Ogwangdae is a truly unique performance that you’ve probably never heard of, until now. This dramatic performance hails from the town of Goseong on the south coast of Korea. A group of skilled artists put on a play divided into five acts. The parts of the drama do not come together to create a whole story. Instead, they each stand independently as singular narratives. The drama is played out in a blend of colourful costumes, traditional music, and unique masks.

Bibap ‘Musical Chef’

Prepare for a quirky combination of acting, comedy, and food! This wacky musical performance is presented through genres like beatboxing, acapella, and b-boying. It’s a moving gastronomic musical where audiences order food mid-performance and b-boy chefs zip around on stage while showing off their rock-hard abs. The Musical Chef play is a work of art that’s uniquely South Korean and you’ll never see anything else like it.

K-Musical Performance by Kim Da Hye

Enjoy a traditional musical presentation by performer Kim Da-hye! She presents her music through her modern interpretation based on tradition and plans to show the new synergy created by her gayageum and percussion instruments. As a musician, Kim loves her cultural traditions and enjoys rhythm in music.

For this performance, she is collaborating with percussionist Cho Bong-kuk. In addition to her unique musical arrangement, Kim Da-hye will perform a new arrangement of the song from the drama Reply, which was especially loved in Singapore, on the gayageum.
