Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience is Coming to Jeju This December

Jeju is best known for its volcanic landscapes, windswept coastlines and tangerine orchards. This December, however, the island is adding something rather more magical to its list of attractions.

Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience will make its South Korean debut at LunaFall in Jeju in December 2026. The immersive outdoor attraction invites visitors to step into a nocturnal forest inspired by the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films.

A night-time journey into the Forbidden Forest

Rather than a conventional exhibition filled with glass cases and static displays, the experience takes the form of an interactive woodland trail. Previous international editions have used theatrical lighting, atmospheric sound, special effects and detailed scenic installations to recreate the mystery of the Forbidden Forest. Visitors follow an illuminated route through the woods, encountering recognisable creatures and moments from the Wizarding World along the way.

Hippogriffs, unicorns and treasure-loving Nifflers have appeared at earlier locations. Visitors have also been invited to cast spells and use a wand to summon their own Patronus. In some cities, the trail has concluded with a themed village offering food, drinks, exclusive merchandise and photo opportunities. These elements have not yet been confirmed for Jeju, but they offer a glimpse of how expansive the experience can be.

A global attraction with more than two million visitors

The first Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience opened in the United Kingdom in October 2021. Since then, the attraction has travelled across four continents and 16 cities, welcoming more than two million visitors.

Past destinations include locations in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Australia, Canada, China, Chile and Singapore.

Singapore hosted the attraction’s Asia-Pacific debut on Sentosa Island in February 2024. The experience transformed Sentosa’s Coastal Trail into an illuminated forest filled with interactive spells, magical creatures and film-inspired scenes.

The official experience website describes the attraction as family-friendly, interactive and outdoors. At previous editions, visitors generally spent between 60 and 90 minutes completing the experience, although the duration and format for Jeju may differ.

The original international experience was developed by Warner Bros. Discovery Global Themed Entertainment in partnership with Fever and experiential creators Thinkwell and Unify. Dotmill joins Warner Bros. and Fever for the upcoming South Korean production.

Why LunaFall is a fitting setting

The choice of LunaFall feels particularly appropriate. Located in Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo, LunaFall is already known for after-dark storytelling and large-scale digital installations. Dotmill opened the attraction in 2022 across a sprawling 120,000-pyeong site surrounded by Jeju’s natural landscape.

Its existing experience follows a fantasy narrative about a moon filled with people’s wishes falling onto Jeju. Visitors wander through illuminated woodland, projection-mapped environments and interactive installations centred around an enormous moon sculpture.

According to VisitJeju, the current LunaFall trail contains sections of unpaved forest path and typically takes around 90 minutes to explore. The route and accessibility arrangements for the Harry Potter experience have yet to be announced, so travellers should wait for the official visitor information before making detailed plans.

With its established night-walk format, natural forest setting and experience in immersive technology, LunaFall already has much of the atmosphere needed to bring the Forbidden Forest to life.

Korea-exclusive features could be on the way

The Jeju production may not simply be a copy of earlier editions. A Dotmill representative told Korean media that the team was planning content that could be presented exclusively in South Korea, alongside installations previously used overseas. No details have been released, but the possibility of Jeju-specific or Korea-exclusive elements makes this edition particularly intriguing.

The destination itself could also give the experience a distinctive character. Jeju’s dense woodland, dramatic weather and dark winter evenings provide an atmospheric backdrop quite different from an indoor exhibition or urban pop-up.

For now, Potterheads planning a winter escape to South Korea may have one more reason to consider Jeju. Between volcanic scenery by day and an illuminated Wizarding World after dark, the island’s December travel experience is shaping up to be considerably more enchanting.
