If you’re a tourist planning a CBD-fuelled tour, then it’s important to know the basic guidelines for consuming cannabis in Thailand. The country is the first Asian country to decriminalise the plant, so we understand you might be excited to indulge in cannabis food in Bangkok. But keep in mind that it’s not the free-for-all a lot of us may be envisioning! Here are a few of the cannabis regulations from health officials in Thailand:

  1. Carrying seeds or parts of the cannabis plant into and out of Thailand for personal purposes is prohibited. It’s worth noting that imported cannabis plants remain on the narcotics list in the country.
  2. Cultivation of the plant is only allowed after registration via government websites.
  3. An official permit is required to use cannabis buds for research, processing, sale, and export.
  4. Pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as people under 20 years of age, are not allowed to consume cannabis unless health professionals are present.
  5. Individuals processing extracts with more than 0.2 THC and synthetic THC must obtain permission.
  6. Cannabis-infused food is available in authorised restaurants in Bangkok and the rest of the country. Dining establishments are required to notify customers of dishes with CBD.
  7. Individuals may obtain cannabis health products through specific channels.
  8. Smoking cannabis in public spaces is illegal. This includes schools and shopping malls.
  9. Drivers are urged to avoid getting behind the wheel after consuming cannabis.
  10. Anyone with a negative reaction to cannabis products must proceed to a doctor immediately.

Now that you’re armed with the basics, is it time to sample the goods? Cannabis-infused cuisine isn’t for everyone, but if you’re the type of traveller to indulge, we’ve rounded up some of the top spots to hit in Bangkok.
