10 Cafés in Melaka You Need to Visit on Your Next Trip
Café hopping is a valid reason for booking that trip.
A bus ticket to Melaka is only a fraction of the price of the cheapest flight out of Changi, which makes it a classic short trip destination.
The sun can easily feel like too much to handle after a few hours sightseeing at the famous churches though, so I learned the hard way to keep a list of cafés on file to avoid the frustration of looking for them after a long day.
Otherwise, maybe you're a simply a café fiend and can't leave a café stop out of your itinerary. Either way, these cafés are worth saving for your next Melaka trip.

1. The Daily Fix Café

The Daily Fix is one of those places that keeps people coming back, and for good reason. Tucked along Jonker Walk, it occupies a beautifully preserved shophouse that has kept its old-world character intact. Order the pandan pancakes: fluffy, fragrant and served with gula Melaka sauce; or go for the eggs benedict if you're after something more savoury. The salted gula Melaka coffee is worth adding to your order while you're at it, reviews report its balanced sweet and savoury profile.

2. The Stolen Cup

One of Jonker Walk's consistent crowd favourites, The Stolen Cup has been quietly drawing regulars since 2017. The café's signature gula Melaka latte is a non-negotiable: well-balanced, not too sweet and distinctly Melakan. Pair it with the salted egg yolk croissant, or go for the smoked duck croissant if you want something more substantial. If you're doing a morning café hop, this is an ideal first stop before the street gets crowded.

3. Kopi Harian

Right next door to The Daily Fix, Kopi Harian leans into local coffee culture with a modern twist. The black sesame latte and kopi cham are popular picks for something a little different, but the nyonya laksa and matcha toast are what keep the regulars coming back for food. The rustic setting feels more lived-in than commercial, and it works equally well for a quick caffeine stop or a longer sit-down (during non-peak hours). Reviewers note the shop's long queues on weekend, so prepare for a 30 minute wait.

Set in an old Chinese-style house along the Melaka River in Kampung Jawa, Ban Kheng Café is one of the more scenic spots on this list. The Big Breakfast at RM35 is the clear crowd favourite: generous portions that are well-executed, its the kind of plate that earns its own visit. The ham and cheese milk bread sandwich is another solid pick if you're keeping it light. It's a Muslim-friendly café, so it's a good call if you're travelling with a mixed group.

One of Melaka's newer openings, Bon Mansion takes over a century-old colonial mansion bungalow along Jalan Gajah Berang and turns it into a French-inspired bakery, gelato and coffee café. The 100% pistachio gelato and the Royale are among the standout orders, alongside the full range of freshly baked French pastries and cakes. The space has both indoor and outdoor seating, and it opens until 9pm, making it one of the better evening options if you're still in the area after dinner.

If you want to learn something while you sip, Calanthe Art Café is the one to visit. Each cup of coffee here represents one of Malaysia's 13 states, making it as much an education as a caffeine fix. Beyond the coffee, the Calanthe laksa and claypot yee-mee laksa are strong food orders. The coffee-butter chicken with rice is worth trying too if you're after a proper meal.

The Butter has built a following for getting one thing right. Their exceptional croissants and pastries are served in a cosy shophouse setting near Jonker Walk. The signature croissants come in unique flavours and fillings, and the cromboloni has become a particular talking point. Wash it down with one of the flower and coffee series drinks, the lavender latte and rosy latte on their own are worth the detour.

Hidden behind a toy collectibles store near the tail end of Jonker Walk, Backlane Coffee is the kind of discovery that makes café-hopping so satisfying. Order the signature chocolate macaroon or the Earl Grey macaroon: both are excellent, and the portions are generous for the price. The cosy, low-key vibe makes it ideal for a mid-afternoon break between sightseeing.

Sin See Tai is one of Melaka's more characterful finds. A micro-roastery and café that takes its coffee seriously, they use house-roasted beans for every cup. The avocado bacon toast on homemade sourdough is the crowd-pleaser, but the quinoa barley risotto cooked with miso butter and truffle oil is easily the most underrated dish on the menu. It stays open until midnight on most nights, making it a good last stop on a full day of exploring.
