Thailand Has Added Indonesia and the Philippines to Its Quarantine-Free List

Any Indonesians and Filipinos out there planning to head to Thailand soon?

Last month, Thailand already started welcoming fully vaccinated foreign tourists from low-risk countries with no mandatory quarantine. The Thai government announced that the list of countries exempted from quarantine would expand by December of this year — but guess what? They’ve already expanded the list this November!

Now, Thailand’s list of quarantine-free countries includes places like India, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

Starting 1 Nov 2021, fully vaccinated tourists from a total of 47 countries will be welcomed in Thailand without mandatory quarantine. They are, however, required to give a negative PCR test result upon arrival. Those who aren’t fully vaccinated yet must face a mandatory 10-day quarantine at an Alternative Quarantine hotel.

As of Monday, the 17 new countries added to Thailand’s list of quarantine-free tourists are the following: Croatia, India, Indonesia, Kuwait, Laos, Luxembourg, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Oman, the Philippines, Romania, Slovakia, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and Vietnam.

According to Governor Yuthasak Supasorn, the Thai government is looking forward to reviving the country’s tourism industry and is expecting to receive one million tourists in light of the ease of border restrictions. “I’m confident the reopening will greatly benefit the country, especially in the tourism high season that normally lasts into early next year. TAT [Tourism Authority of Thailand] is now expecting over one million tourists to come in the next six months, or about 300,000 per month,” he said.

Do note, though, that Thailand is still seeing approximately 8,000 to 10,000 COVID-19 cases a day. But based on Our World in Data, 44.3% of Thailand’s population have already been fully vaccinated. That said, if you’re willing to travel to Thailand soon, read more about pre-arrival requirements here

If you’re from one of the 47 quarantine-free countries welcomed in Thailand, we’re happy for you. But do remember that this only applies to fully vaccinated individuals, and to always observe the health protocols and precautions still in place. See you in the Land of Smiles!
