Soaring 305 metres above sea level, the Bastei in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains of Germany is a jagged rock formation that is quite similar to Nevada’s Grand Canyon. The rocks of the Bastei were formed by water erosion more than a millennium ago. The bridge was originally built from wood but it was later replaced with sandstone, which made it look natural amongst the jagged rocks.
For two centuries, the Bastei has been a major tourist draw in the region, inspiring nature lovers and artists around the world. Who doesn’t get inspired with this breathtaking view?
