It's a sign that recovery is well on its way in Japan.

Things are looking up in Japan as the country recorded no daily deaths linked to COVID-19 on Sunday, 7 Nov 2021, according to Kyodo News. This marks the first time in 15 months that the country has experienced zero fatalities from the coronavirus, as the last time this occurred was on 2 Aug 2020.

Only a total of 162 new positive cases were confirmed nationwide on Sunday. On the other hand, the number of severely ill patients from COVID-19 remains the same at 100 from the previous day, according to the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare in Japan.

Last August, Japan was reporting more than 20,000 daily infections, due to the spread of the highly transmissible Delta variant. But now that more than 70% of the population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, the number of positive cases has dramatically declined throughout the country.

As a sense of normalcy returns and travel restrictions are gradually lightened, the Japanese government plans to introduce booster vaccine shots by December to protect citizens against a possible surge of infections during the wintertime.
