In order to expedite its vaccination process, the Maldives has had a campaign in place since 1 Feb 2021. This vaccination campaign, known as ‘I’m Vaccinated’, has been spearheaded by His Excellency President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. It aims to provide free COVID-19 vaccines to all citizens and residents of the country.
Vaccination of the Maldives tourism industry
This campaign specifically targets workers in the tourism sector. Therefore, by encouraging full vaccination among this population, the campaign aims to make the Maldives one of the first fully vaccinated tourism sectors in the world.
The islands of Maldives boast unique geographical formations, offering natural physical distance. Furthermore, with stringent health and safety measures in place, a fully vaccinated tourism sector will become an added advantage in encouraging tourists to visit the destination.
As of 23rd Jun 2021, 96% of resort employees have received the first dose of the vaccine, while 70% of the resort employees are fully vaccinated.
Overall, the vaccination campaign hopes to reassure travellers that the Maldives remains one of the safest destinations to travel to during this unprecedented time.
Travelling to the Maldives
The Maldives reopened its borders for tourists of all nationalities in July 2020, with rigorous procedures in place to ensure the safety of tourists and tourism workers.
Requirements from tourists are as follows:
- An online health declaration form completed within 24 hours prior to their departure
