Trekking can accommodate all kinds of fitness levels. It is strongly advised for the inexperienced jungle-trekker to explore the area with well-trained travel guides and to stay at accommodation located throughout the forest. Travel guides will be happy to accompany you through challenging trail routes and can also tell you many interesting facts about the jungle! The more adventurous trekkers may choose to explore the forests without a guide. You can follow set paths that will safely get you through the forest.

Jungle Tips
1. Sabah experiences a hot and sunny tropical climate and oppressive humidity. The jungle environment is harsh and full of reedy grasses and thistle plants that can cause injuries. Visitors should dress fully (long pants and socks) to avoid injuries and comfortably to avoid heatstroke.
2. Stay cool and drink lots of water.
3. Wear trail shoes or mountaineering boots.
4. Seek anti-malaria medication before coming to Sabah, add this to your first aid kit.
5. Bring a pair of leech socks. This is a tightly woven cotton bottom and nylon gator that you tuck your pants into and that goes all the way up to your knees. This will help keep the leeches away from bare skin.
6. Protect yourself from the sun. The sun is much stronger in the tropical climate and even though there is little exposure of the sun in the forest, there is still a high risk of getting sunburnt. Keep sunscreen and bring along a hat on your exploration.
7. Bring a large flashlight and extra set of batteries
8. Never leave marked trails
