1. New York

First on our travel bucket list is the Big Apple. There’s a reason why New York is such a monumental destination, and why millions and millions fly to this American metropolis every year. Arts, theatre, food, fashion — this vibrant urban playground has something for every kind of traveller.

Marvel at the best of avant-garde art at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) or The Metropolitan Museum of Art, popularly called The Met. Iconic New York sites like the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, and the Rockefeller Center are all worth a visit. Meanwhile, nature lovers will appreciate the burst of greenery at Central Park or the New York Botanical Garden. If shopping is more your speed, don’t miss the luxurious shops on Fifth Avenue or the vintage boutiques at East Village

At night, head to the iconic Times Square to revel in the boundless energy of New York City and admire the world-famous neon billboards. Nearby, theatregoers can catch a show on Broadway, or explore the endless stream of shops and cafes in the area. Truly, we could go on and on about the joys of travelling to New York!

2. Los Angeles

Buzzy Los Angeles is a different experience than NYC, but this sunny California destination is no less dazzling. After all, the City of Angels is one of the largest cities in the United States, second only to New York. So, it’s no surprise that LA is packed with fantastic spots for first-time (or nth-time) tourists.

Let’s start with the most famous LA attraction: Hollywood. Take a peek at the glitzy world of movie-making at the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Paramount Pictures, Chinese Theatre, and the iconic Hollywood sign. Meanwhile, Rodeo Drive is a shopaholic’s paradise. We may not be able to afford the ultra-pricey items here, but it’s still a treat to browse the glamourous shops like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. For first-timers in Los Angeles, Disneyland or Six Flags Magic Mountain are great spots for a family outing.

Once you’re ready for a walk down the city’s less refined side, visit Downtown LA and be wowed by stunning architectural gems and a thriving art community. If you’re in town for the art, you can’t go wrong at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) or the Getty Center. Looking for sun-soaked beaches? Malibu is endlessly picturesque, while Venice Beach thrums with wild bohemian energy.

3. Vancouver

Epic adventures await in Vancouver, a city in Canada beckoning thrill-seeking travellers from all over the world. Here, the call of the outdoors is impossible to resist. It’s one of the only places on our travel bucket list where adventurers can go from sea to summit in a single day, making it perfect for an outdoor-focused getaway.

Chase fresh powder at the mighty North Shore Mountains, whether you’re in the mood for skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, sledding, or snowshoe adventures. Endless trails surrounded by spectacular vistas in the North Shore mean you can hike and mountain bike in this region to no end. Then, travellers who aren’t ready to rest after their ski runs can hit one of the many gorgeous beaches in the city, like Kitsilano Beach and Jericho Beach.

If you’re willing to make your way to Squamish River, expect to be rewarded with one of the best whitewater rafting experiences in the region. In spring, whale watching around the waters of Vancouver is a popular activity. But even staying downtown will scratch that itch for outdoor activities, with the beloved Stanley Park offering a treasure trove of hiking and biking trails.

4. Toronto

The famously diverse city of Toronto is a brilliant urban melting pot that’s a joy to explore. A huge chunk of Toronto’s population are transplants from all around the world, giving it a worldly, multicultural flavour that’s entirely its own. From the thriving art community to the eclectic foodie scene, this cosmopolitan city’s urban delights never cease.

Fill your Toronto itinerary with museum outings to the renowned Art Gallery of Ontario, the Islam-centric Aga Khan Museum, and quirky ones like the Bata Shoe Museum. The Hockey Hall of Fame will impress sports fanatics.

Gourmands must visit Kensington Market, a dynamic neighbourhood teeming with culinary adventures. Distillery District is another must-have on the travel bucket list, with vintage Victorian warehouses converted into art galleries, cafes, and boutiques. Bask in fresh air at the massive High Park.

Travellers craving more outdoor experiences can head straight to Lake Ontario, particularly the scenic Scarborough Bluffs for beaches and hiking trails. The car-free Toronto Islands is an enjoyable day trip destination for sun-seekers, with beaches, parks, and even a small theme park. Cycling, kayaking, and paddleboard opportunities are available.

5. London

Few places in the world are more exhilarating than London. Featuring an invigorating mix of heritage and the cutting-edge, this city on our travel bucket list is at the forefront of everything: history, art, theatre, music, food, and drink.

History buffs won’t know where to look, with magnificent landmark attractions scattered throughout the city. Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, and the Houses of Parliament are only a handful. At the same time, London is delightfully fresh. Get a taste of Londoners’ innovative spirit; culinary masterpieces from world-renowned restaurants showcase just as much creativity as the jaw-dropping art at Tate Modern. Enjoy theatre performances at the West End or Shakespeare’s Globe, then wind down at a classic English pub.

Spend sunny London days at green spaces like Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, both popular spots among locals and tourists for rest and recreation. Or you can escape the crowds with a day trip to country gardens, idyllic farms, and sandy beaches near the city.

6. Paris

It’s always a good time to visit Paris. Set on the banks of the Seine, it’s the star of many globetrotters’ travel bucket lists. And it’s no passing trend, either! The City of Love has long inspired generations of artists, poets, writers, and musicians — and it’s easy to see why after a day of basking in Paris magic.

Even just the highlights make for an incredible itinerary: Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Notre Dame, Musée d’Orsay, and Arc de Triomphe, among others. Beyond the divine art and impeccable architecture, make sure you enjoy a Parisian dining experience. Whether you’re sitting down for a formal meal at a Michelin-starred restaurant or savouring a meal at a more relaxed modern bistro, satisfaction is practically guaranteed.

For travellers wandering the streets of Paris, the city is more than just a collection of world-famous attractions. Look deeper and appreciate the beauty in the details, too, like a stroll along tree-lined boulevards, bustling local life at the markets, and a perfectly flaky croissant.

There are very few things Celia won’t do for a good story, but her favourite ones always involve the beach, animals, or any type of outdoor activity. She’s been writing for as long as she can remember, and can usually be found typing away at home with her cute dogs at her feet. Away from work, she spends most of her time trying out every hobby she can get her hands on, from running to crocheting to baking (she’s pretty okay at most things that don't involve cooking).
