A house is supposed to give us a comfortable refuge, but this tiny Serbia river house certainly defied the fundamental idea of a safe dwelling. For more than four decades, it has survived the test of nature – floods, strong winds and typhoons. Built on top of a rock right in the middle of the Drina River in Serbia, this unusual house attracts a number of tourists every year.
The crazy idea of building a single house on top of this seemingly unstable rock came from a group of young swimmers in 1968. They wanted to have a place to rest so this extraordinary one-room dwelling came to life. Amazingly, it has remained intact for 45 years now.
