You need to look at accommodation, transport, things to do, what to bring, what to wear…and even when you’ve done ample research, it doesn’t always pan out into an enjoyable vacation.
That’s when you need to look elsewhere for answer. Somewhere…out there…maybe amongst the stars! You see, sometimes, a good vacation needs nothing more than for the ‘stars to align perfectly’.
Horoscopes are quite the contemporary phenomenon. While not everyone believes in horoscopes (these things should always be taken with a pinch of salt, in my opinion), it can’t be denied that sometimes a horoscope reading makes for amusing entertainment. And hey, just like anything else, if you choose to believe it, horoscopes can actually help match you to your perfect getaway!

So here it is, the perfect holiday destination(s) according to your horoscope!
Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)

People born under the constellation Aquarius (I sound mystical already!) are often the shy or quiet type in the group. But there are also times when they can be extremely eccentric and filled with energy! They are often deep in thought and value mental stimulation (intellect) in their lives. In terms of travelling, Aquarius lean towards unrivalled freedom and often have no problems (sometimes even preferring it) spending some good quality alone time. Most likely, an Aquarius will be in their best element soaking in one of the majestic onsens (natural hot springs) in Japan or gazing at the night sky atop beautiful hills and mountains.

Tibet is located in the western region of China and it is surrounded by a rich, natural landscape of mountains and rivers. Most popular as the place where the Dalai Lama resides, Aquarius will find ample time in Tibet to relax, do some soul-searching and reflect on life, while soaking in the beauty of the destination. The many monasteries in Tibet further add to the spirituality atmosphere, which will please Aquarius’ deep-thinking nature.

Home to Western civilization’s foundations, Athens is the cultural centre which links the ancient world to modern Europe. The birthplace of philosophers like Socrates and the place where Plato’s and Aristotle’s works were first popularised, Athens is a historical city and birthplace of modern philosophy which will greatly connect with Aquarius on an intimate level.
Pisces (February 19 – March 20)

Pisces love romance and love to dabble in spirituality. They are often the selfless ones in the group, always friendly to everyone to meet. Pisces have a deep-rooted artistic nature and can value and create art better than other horoscopes. When travelling, Pisces prefer more tranquil destinations which restore their peace of mind. Paris is the artistic centre of modern Europe, and a city known for its romantic ambiance. Pisces will be chuffed to bits when visiting the Louvre Museum and simply being in the presence of the historic French city. Imagine strolling through the Parisian streets at night accompanied by the sounds of performing street musicians while the smell of freshly brewed coffee fills the air, ah, magnifique!
Aries (March 21 – April 19)

Aries are the hot-blooded members of the horoscope family. They are extremely energetic and active, often excelling in sporting activities. Brave and youthful, Aries often enjoy the company of vibrant crowds and simply love exploring new places that have yet to be discovered by many. In other words, if you see a person wakeboarding in the South Pole, it is most likely an Aries.

Ah, when you talk about vibrant crowds and festive celebrations, one of the first things which comes to mind is the Carnival held in Rio De Janeiro. Aries will fit right in with the colourful celebration and spirited community of Brazil’s most popular city. It’s hard NOT to feel young when you’re dancing the Samba, no? What’s more, Aries will enjoy the long but rewarding hike up to the iconic Christ the Redeemer Statue in Rio which promises a view to truly die for.

South Korea is becoming an increasingly popular travel destination among young travellers thanks to the global success of Korean Pop Culture. Seoul, in particular, is a bustling metropolis with some of the most dynamic night scenes in the world. An Aries will no doubt feel right at home exploring the streets of Hongdae and Gangnam at night, flanked by flashy neon signs and energetic young people such as themselves!
Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

Taurus are often loyal companions and the most reliable people in the group. Naturally strong and tough, Taurus are a committed bunch and would largely prefer to stay away from too much change and uncertainty. They prefer comfort and enjoy good food and luxury. They are the food connoisseurs of the horoscope family and most likely, once they start on a food trail, good luck getting them to stop!

What’s there to be said about Penang street food that hasn’t already been said? One of the top destinations in Malaysia, Penang is a food heaven that is known to satisfy even the harshest of food critics. The street food here is unrivalled in the region and the people are generally friendly. Taurus will love the delicious food in Penang, the comfort of the port cities and the many luxurious island beach resorts and hotels.

Poland, Bulgaria, Croatia, Russia and the Czech Republic are just some of the many small (except Russia, duh!) countries which make up Eastern Europe. Although not as luxurious or economically advanced as their western counterpart, I can personally vouch that the food in Eastern Europe far outclasses the west. It’s more rustic and flavoursome. It also contains elements of rich tradition and homeliness. A food tour of Eastern Europe will be like a gastronomical dream come true for Taurus!
Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

Gemini are hard to describe. They can be fun-loving and social creatures, but they can also be extremely serious and thoughtful. They are expressive and their quick wit is matched only by the inquisitive desire to learn new things. (They are also the most awesome people out of all the horoscopes. Fact. Just saying.) Their desire to acquire new experiences and their fun-loving, social nature means that they will most often be spotted in big cities and metropolises, usually in the very centre of the local way of life.

Hong Kong is a great example of a city which has successfully combined commercial advancement and tradition. A great metropolis of many cultures and people, the city of Hong Kong is an ideal destination for Gemini. They will most likely enjoy places like the bustling Kowloon District or the ever-vibrant Central District. Gemini will love the experience of staying as close as possible to the heart of the locals.

Barcelona is a port city in the northeast of Spain, bordering France. It is a global metropolis which boasts many different European and African culture and that is reflected in its architecture, its food and the city’s very way of life. Life in the city is very relaxed, advancing at almost a snail’s pace, making it a perfect place for Gemini to amply satisfy their inquisitive nature because there’s no rush. Gemini will definitely love Barcelona. I know I did. (hint, hint).
Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

Cancer babies who can swim love being in the water. And even those who can’t, love being around water. Cancer are sentimental, emotional beings. They are highly empathetic towards others and are sensitive to things around them. The love home hobbies and are not exactly the highly-ambitious type. That is why Cancers’ ideal vacation comes with a relaxing ambiance, and if possible, water.

Okay, so, you can’t technically SWIM in the Amstel River in Amsterdam, but let’s be fair to the non-aquatic Cancers out there, okay? Amsterdam is a lovely city in the Netherlands which is surrounded by the Amstel River. Although it is the capital of the country, Amsterdam itself is not as busy as metropolitan cities like Kuala Lumpur or Taipei. Life here is much more relaxed and biking seems to be one of the main modes of transport here, in addition to trams. Wherever you find yourself in Amsterdam, you will almost certainly always be not far from a view of the beautiful Amstel River. And this pleases the aqua-loving Cancer.

Speaking of cities that are surrounded by water, Venice is another top choice for the travelling Cancer. The Grand Canal (aptly named) is one of the most iconic features of this Italian city and indeed you can always spot tourists on hand-rowed gondolas cruising by. The city is an epitome of Italian culture and art, boasting a romantic ambiance to boot. It’s no wonder people fall in love with this city easily, much more so for Cancer!
Leo (July 23 – August 22)

Ah, the Leo, the de facto leader of the horoscopes. Leos are natural born leaders and are usually the centre of attention wherever they go. They are extremely creative and are slightly attracted to the dramatic side of things. What this translates to is an outgoing personality matched by an assuring self-confidence which draws people in. Leos love life and are often the life of the party. Throw in a beach and Leos experience instant gratification. See that guy partying wildly at ZoukOut? Probably a Leo.

Was there really any doubt after the explanation above? Ibiza is an island located in the Mediterranean, about 90 miles off the coast of Valencia, a province in the east of Spain. In addition to some beautiful historical sites, Ibiza is home to countless pristine beaches and a nightlife that never seems to end. I’m sure you’ve heard Ibiza being referenced once or twice in party songs or in movies, and they weren’t kidding. Life in Ibiza is wild and fun. And for the charismatic Leo who loves being the centre of attention and mingling around, Ibiza is probably the perfect place for a vacation!

Similar to Ibiza, Boracay is a lively island, located in the Philippines. Filled with sandy beaches and friendly travellers and locals alike, Leos are sure to have a ball on this island. And because Leos are also ones who are up for an adventure, no sooner than when the plane has touched down will you find a Leo getting in line for some of the island’s more adventurous activities such as cliff diving and parasailing. Oh those Leos, They never fail to amaze, do they?
Virgo (August 23 – September 22)

Almost a polar opposite of Leos, Virgos are more conservative by nature. This isn’t necessarily a negative trait. It simply means that when travelling, Virgos tend to prefer more organization than unplanned spontaneity. They like paying attention to the small details and enjoy being in the presence of nature. When travelling, Virgos become easily fascinated by beautiful natural scenery.

Despite its name, Iceland is actually NOT covered in ice! Gasp! What a shocker right? No, Iceland is actually (in my not-so-humble opinion) one of the most beautiful places in the world in terms of natural scenery. Green grassy fields beneath snow-topped mountains are the norm in this small Scandinavian nation. Largely unexplored and not a typical tourist destination, Iceland’s beautiful scenery makes the hearts of Virgos flutter and they are bound to enjoy a great, peaceful time there.

Alishan is a national scenic area in Taiwan and a must-see destination for anyone who visits the country. Located high in the mountains (‘shan’ means mountain in Mandarin), Alishan is famous for producing some of the most fragrant tea leaves (mountain tea leaves at that!) in the world and for its amazing ensemble of cherry blossoms. Visiting Alishan in spring when the flowers are in full bloom is truly a beautiful experience. Virgos will have a hard time finding natural scenery to top the sights in Alishan. They have cherry blossom-flavoured mochi and candy as well! Hmm…sweet and beautiful!
Libra (September 23 – October 22)

Libra is symbolised by the scales. They exemplify the love of peace and harmony. Libras typically hate being alone and enjoys the beautiful things in life. To satisfy a travelling Libra, it is important to find a destination with a balance of both modernity and beautiful tradition and nature. After all, a Libra’s favourite view is a picturesque locale.

Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland and is, in my own personal opinion, one of the most beautiful cities I ever had the privilege to visit. Edinburgh is filled with both modern infrastructure and ancient castles from the Middle Ages. The city has a real Charles Dickens-esque feel and nothing beats strolling down its picturesque Victorian cobblestone paths. The food here is also pretty amazing and of course, the people are welcoming enough. All this ensures that a Libra can never go wrong by visiting Edinburgh.

Santorini is an island in the Aegean sea off the southern coast of Greece. It’s not a very big island, so the main modes of transport on the island include ATV Bikes, a few public buses and of course, feet. Santorini is most famous for Oia, its town centre which boasts picturesque landscapes and beautiful white houses which line the cliffs overlooking the sea. This coastal town is another one of those places that a Libra will feel right at home in, and honestly, they’ll find it hard to leave afterwards.
Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)

Scorpios are a passionate bunch to say the least. They are full of gusto and love being right. Their nature causes them to be research-driven individuals who also make rational leaders in times of trouble. They are assertive and reliable. Because of their resourcefulness, a perfect vacation for Scorpios involves activities which allow them to utilize their quick-wit and innovation. This means camping and/or glamping, ideally near jungles or waterfalls.

Moyo Island is located off the northern coast of Indonesia’s Sumbawa Island. There are only about 6 villages on the island and the place itself is largely unknown to outsiders or tourists. Home to many local wildlife, a national park was built on the island in 1986 for conservation purposes. There is also a Marine Conservation centre to protect the many beautiful coral reefs nearby. The largely untouched natural state of Moyo Island makes it a prime candidate for a proper camping trip. And who better to have on a camping trip then the ever crafty Scorpio?

Most people, when they think of England, they think of bustling cities like London. Well, one place that definitely deviates from that stereotypical image is the Lake District in the northwest of England. Also known as The Lakes or Lakeland, it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. It is surrounded by lakes, mountains and forests, culminating in a celebration of Mother Nature’s artistry. I’m not sure there are enough days of summer in England to allow that many camping opportunities, but this is definitely a great (and more relaxing) spot to pitch a tent and enjoy the great outdoors. Scorpios, take note!
Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)

Sagittarius, in general, are the perfect camping buddy for Scorpios. They are known as the hunters of the horoscopes (exemplified by their symbol, the bow and arrow). Sagittarius enjoy freedom and are quite the energetic bunch. The love wandering around and exploring new places. Ever the optimist, Sagittarius are outgoing and love immersing themselves in the great outdoors. They are huge fans of animals and parks.

The famous Yellowstone National Park, located in the states of Wyoming, Idaho and Montana, is a top destination for the Sagittarius. As a natural ‘hunter’, Sagittarius travellers will admire and truly appreciate the wondrous grasp of nature, the wide open spaces and the free-roaming wildlife. Their enthusiastic personality also means they will enjoy the many fun and exciting hiking paths and the many must-see sites within the park.

Denali National Park in inner Alaska is located around Denali (or Mount McKinley as it is formerly known), the tallest mountain in North America. The national park contains a multitude of different landscapes including forests, tundra, rock, glaciers and snow at the highest points. Visitors in the winter season can get involved with many park activities such as dog-sledding and skiing. The park sees nearly half a million visitors annually and is a great place to view some of Alaska’s most beautiful sceneries.
Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)

And finally we come to Capricorn, the family guy of the horoscopes. Capricorns place a strong emphasis on tradition and are great masters of organization and self-control. They value the connection between friends and family above all else and often prefer vacations that help them bond with their traveling companion. They are great planners for group or family vacations and tend to favour family-friendly destinations.

I just want to say, I was extremely tempted to list Disneyland (insert city name here) but that would have been too easy. London, England is one of those travel destinations that just seems to be on everyone’s bucket list. Having been there myself on a solo trip, I definitely recommend going with family or friends. While the city is a fun place to explore (Sherlock Holmes museum on Baker Street, or Madame Tussauds, anyone?), it is much more enjoyable when you have someone else there to enjoy it with. I can certainly see why families love going to London for a family trip. Children will also enjoy the London buses and the changing of the guard ceremony at Buckingham. Capricorns, get to planning, your friends and family will thank you!

Speaking of family vacations, there’s a reason why so many couples love going to Bali for their honeymoon. The place is meant for bonding and getting close to your partner. Its tranquil beaches and calming natural sceneries aim to pamper travellers into infinite bliss. And with someone there to enjoy it with you, you instantly build unforgettable memories. I know Bali’s definitely going to be on my list of future family vacations, and I’m pretty sure most Capricorn have the place down on their own list as well!

A Pinch Of Salt
Of course, like all horoscope-based articles, this one should be taken with a pinch of salt and not followed religiously. Not all Leos are the same and finding two Gemini that think alike will be pretty much an impossible task. And of course, while the destinations on this list are awesome, some might prefer other locations that are different yet similar. It’s all good.
Then again, do you REALLY need the stars to align themselves just to convince you to visit any one or all of the destinations listed above? Nope, I didn’t think so! Go forth, my travel junkie friends, go forth and fulfill your destinies written in the stars!
